All-State Orchestra:  CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Nine OHS Orchestra students auditioned yesterday at James Madison University for a spot in the All Virginia ("All State") Orchestra: Stacy Ham, Irene Lee, Rachel Kim, Mikey Lankenau, Wendy Zue, Katie Brodie, Ryan Hintzman, Andrew Lankenau and Mike Dettmar. This was an extremely competitive (and stressful) audition process including the most talented high school orchestra students from all over Virginia. The following OHS students were selected to perform in the 2010 All Virginia Orchestra event at Great Bridege HS in Chesapeake, VA on April 8-10:

Rachel Kim (placed 38th in state)

Viola:
Mikey Lankenau (placed FIRST in state)

Cello:
Ryan Hintzman (placed 3rd in state)
Andrew Lankenau (placed 10th in state)

Please congratulate those students who garnered a seat, as well as all those who participated in this prestigious competition. Way to Go Cougars!

FACE (SCHOOL ORCHESTRA/BAND FUNDING) ALERT!! There is a real sense that the Board of Supervisors will act soon to cut funding to our school music programs, effectively decimating our prized FCPS band and orchestra programs!!! Please see the Budget Alert Feb 28 Update. Bottom line: We have until March 9 to convince the Board of Supervisors that they need to properly fund FCPS! Please take the steps urged to communicate the value of these programs to the BOS before it's too late.
