Dear Oakton Orchestra Parents and Students,
Welcome to Oakton, new orchestra students and parents!  Welcome back, upperclassmen and parents!  We look forward to a year of great orchestra music under the direction of Ms. Margot Mezvinsky, our new orchestra director.
Here’s Ms. Mezvinsky’s bio and her contact information:

She  has taught and performed in Europe, the Middle East, Central and South America as well as around the US..  She has three children : Serena, 16, Gabriel 14, and Daniel, 11.  She is excited to be a part of the Oakton community. If you would like to contact her, please feel free to email or by cell 585-610-5639. If you would like to come visit her at school, you can make an appointment by calling 703-319-2700 x2950.
Please join me in welcoming Ms. Mezvinsky to Oakton High School!
To get you the updated calendar as soon as possible, Ms. Mezvinsky sent home the orchestra handbooks last week.  Please note the following important change to that handbook:
Checks for the participation fee should be made to Oakton High School instead of Oakton High School Orchestra Booster Club.  Due to changes in county policy, participation fee and trip payments will be made to Oakton High School and handled by Ms. Mezvinsky.  Our fundraising activities will continue as before and checks related to fundraising efforts will go to OHS Orchestra Boosters Club.
Our first car wash is scheduled for this Saturday, September 15th at the Oakton Giant and will run from 11 AM to 3 PM.  See the attached flyer.  We still need parents to supervise (a chaperone or two each shift, 10:45-1:00, and 1:00-3:15) and many more students to help with the event.  Please sign up in the orchestra room or e-mail Ms. Mezvinsky.  Please tell your friends and neighbors to stop by and support the orchestra!
The first GL Scrip orders are due by this Friday, September 14th to Ms. Mezvinsky.  Don’t wait until the holiday rush to get your gift cards!  For those of you who are new to Oakton, we will go over this and other fundraising opportunities at the boosters meeting.
Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 26th.  We will meet in the Lecture Hall to get students measured for their concert attire and to discuss booster club-related activities.  There have been some policy changes around booster-related activities and ALL PARENTS AND STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.  Please do have your students try on their concert attire to make sure they still fit well.
That's it for now.  I hope everyone's off to a great start on the new school year.  Don't forget to get your cars washed this Saturday! Go Cougars!
