ORLANDO TRIP DEPOSITS AND COMMITMENT LETTERS
will still be accepted when classes resume on Wednesday, November 5.  $300 payable to "Oakton High School".  Trip commitment form and information are available on our Spring Trip 2015 page.  Don't miss this opportunity to join your orchestra friends on this most fun (and educational) enrichment adventure.

NOTE:  We are aware that this year's trip is more expensive than in past years due to our travel and hotel arrangements, which we believe will greatly enhance the value and enjoyment of the trip for all participants.  In order to make the trip accessible to all of our students, we would like to be able to provide scholarship funds to as many students as possible.  IF YOUR FAMILY IS ABLE AND WILLING TO DONATE SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS TO SUPPORT THE SPRING TRIP, please contact Mr. Oppenheimer.  Any amount that you might be able to donate would be greatly appreciated and be invaluable to our kids.

TWO TRUCKER DADS (OR MOMS) are needed to chaperone and drive a van of larger instruments to Orlando and back on our spring trip.  If you sign up for this most cool chaperone opportunity (which could no doubt be featured on the Discovery Channel), the cost of your trip participation (hotel, park tickets, etc.) will be FREE!  Please contact Patty Lankenau if you are interested or need more information.

CHEESECAKE ORDERS ARE DUE FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7 YUMMY SWEETZ CHEESECAKES are always a hit for Thanksgiving dessert and will arrive Monday, November 24 just in time for the holiday!  This is our biggest fundraiser of the year - all profits will be applied to reduce the overall cost of the Disney trip to all students (note that profits will not be allocated to individual student accounts as in years past due to new FCPS fundraising regulations).  Sell to family, friends, neighbors, teachers and anyone else willing to sacrifice a few calories for a good cause! Questions?  Contact parent coordinator  Chi Wai.

SEE MR. OPPENHEIMER IN CONCERT! Don't miss these two fantastic opportunities to see Mr. Oppenheimer LIVE IN CONCERT! -
  • The Annandale Symphony Orchestra, with Mr. O leading the violas, will perform this Friday evening, November 7th at 8:00 p.m. at the Rachel Schlesinger Concert Hall at the Alexandria NOVA Campus.  See this link for more details:  Annandale Symphony Concert .  This is a particularly cool program featuring the Northern Virginia Chorale together with the orchestra. Tickets are $10 for students, $20 for parents. If you plan to attend, best directions are via 395 North to Seminary Road exit (west), right onto Beauregard, left onto Braddock.
  • Mr. Oppenheimer will also perform with the Fairfax Chamber Players at a concert on Sunday, November 16th at 3:30 PM at West Springfield High School. The concert will feature a lot of string orchestra “favorites” and include a raffle of tickets to other local orchestra concerts, such as the NSO!  Tickets to this concert are FREE!!! See the attached flyer for more details.
Mr. Oppenheimer will give EXTRA CREDIT to students who attend either or both concerts - plus free autographs and photo opportunities :)

STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS will continue in class this week.  Results will be announced next week after all votes are tallied, chads scrutinized and recounts completed.

UPDATE YOUR FAMILY CONTACT INFORMATION by completing the Google Document at this link:  Contact Information Update Form.  We have discovered that we do not have accurate or complete contact information for many students and parents. Please take a few minutes to update us by completing this handy form so that we can be sure to reach you with important information throughout the school year.

Happy back to school on Wednesday!
