Dear Orchestra Parents and Students.

I'm very pleased to announce that Oakton High School will be represented by Irene Lee (Concertmaster), Ian Johnson (Viola) and Emily Wang (Cello alternate) at the Senior Regional Orchestra (SRO) event in November at Wakefield High School.

Congratulations, Irene Lee, Ian Johnson and Emily Wang!!!!!!
We are very proud of you!

It's quite an accomplishment to be among this select group of musicians who will go on to compete at the state level. To give you a sense of the competition, 150 violinists vied for 44 violin spots in the orchestra and Irene Lee got the top spot!  In addition to the violin, the SRO is composed of just 16 violas (out of 37 who auditioned), 14 cellos (out of 46) and eight bass (out of 21).
Kudos to all those who participated in the audition on Monday!  That includes Tiffany Cai, Hannah Chung, Hannah Kang, Brandon Kim, Ian Ruffner, Chris Suh, Li-chian Wang, and Henry Yen.  These students have been putting in extra practice time since the summer and deserve recognition for their hard work.
Speaking of hard work, Ms. Mezvinsky was one of the judges for the audition on Monday.  With 150 violins, I'm sure she had a very long day.  Thank you, Ms. M for being there to support our students and for serving as one of the judges.
I'd like to give special thanks to all of you students and parents out there who are helping Ms. Mezvinsky and me transition into our respective roles as orchestra director and booster president.   As I'm learning, there are many, many tasks and moving pieces to track in keeping our orchestras humming and your help is vital to keeping our community healthy and vibrant.  Please feel free to reach out to me at if you have any suggestions, ideas or questions.
Go Cougars!
