Orchestra News

posted Dec 7, 2012, 8:55 AM by Oakton Orchestras
Dear Orchestra Parents and Students,
Now that the Thanksgiving holidays are already behind us and Christmas lights and other holiday decorations are brightening our Oakton HS neighborhoods, Oakton orchestra members will be participating a couple of holiday events.  The Chamber Orchestra will be performing Vivaldi’s Summer and Pachelbel Canon in D at the Lord of Life Lutheran Church (5114 Twinbrook Road Fairfax, VA) tomorrow night at 7 pm. OHS’s choir, directed by Ms. Tiffany Powell, will be there too.
On Saturday, December 15th, a few of the orchestra members will be playing in an ensemble, along with Ms. Mezvinsky, at Oakton Library for the library’s holiday open house.  Watch for more details on this event in the next e-mail.  Please join the orchestra members and parents to take a break from your holiday preparations to listen to some great music.
We all owe a huge thank you to Connie Lehman and all the parent and student volunteers who made the Barnes and Noble event a success!  While we are waiting to hear back on the final tally, our annual Black Friday event definitely put the fun back into fundraising!
Due Dates/Reminders:
GL Scrip Orders Due Dec. 12th
Our last GL Scrip order before Christmas is due on Dec. 12th.  The orders will be delivered to the orchestra classroom on Dec. 18th. Families that prefer not to have the gift cards delivered via their student should contact our coordinator, Maria Gloria Cobas, to make alternative arrangements.  Maria Gloria Cobas can be reached at
Christmas Lights Needed for Concert
If you have some extra Christmas lights you can spare, please e-mail Ms. Mezvinsky ( and let her know that you can send them in by Friday, Dec. 7th.  She would like to use the lights to decorate the stage for the concert on Dec. 13th and you can have them back right after the concert.
January 11th/12th , 2013 - Save these dates!
Orchestra officers and Ms. Mezvinsky are planning a social activity for that weekend for orchestra members so please save the dates on your calendars!
The program for the December 13th concert looks very promising for an evening of delightful music.  For a sneak preview of the chamber orchestra concert, remember to stop by the Lord of Life Lutheran Church tomorrow evening!
