OHS Orchestra Updates and Reminders (Week of September 16th)

for 11th and 12th graders is tomorrow night (Wednesday, September 18th, 7:00 p.m.)  Please plan to attend and meet Mr. Oppenheimer if you haven't already had the pleasure.  He will share a brief overview of classroom plans and expectations. 

ORCHESTRA NIGHT is next WEDNESDAY, September 25th in the OHS Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. (Note that last week's announcement erroneously stated that this event was next Thursday)  All families, not just freshman families, are invited to attend in order to hear spring trip plans (details will be kept top secret until then!), fundraising plans, and a more detailed overview of programming for the new school year.  Note that there will be a fresh new look in concert attire this school year.  However, upperclass students will not be required to incur additional uniform costs.   Uniform measuring will take place for both upperclassmen and freshmen on Orchestra Night.

CAR WASH POSTPONED until October.  The carwash scheduled for Saturday has been postponed due to logistical issues.  We need a parent volunteer to serve as Carwash Coordinator in order to proceed with future carwash plans.  Please consider offering your time to help with this fun social/fundraising pursuit.  Contact Patty or Anne below if you can help. We have supplies, sign-up templates and more to help you get started.

REGISTER FOR REMIND 101 NOW!   Enrollment in this handy text-messaging reminder service is REQUIRED of all students, and is optional to parents.  Instructions for enrolling are in the Orchestra Handbook (under the Forms & Documents tab and will also be available at Back-to-School Night and Orchestra Night. If you would prefer an email reminder rather than a text reminder, please send an email to (for all students), or (for Concert students), or (for Symphonic students), or  (for Chamber students).   

DEADLINE FOR FORMS IS NOW!  Students must turn in Student Information Forms and Participation Fee forms/ payment to Mr. Oppenheimer immediately if they haven't already. 

DISTRICT XII ORCHESTRA AUDITION information and materials are now posted on our website OHS Orchestras Website and available in hard copy from Mr. Oppenheimer.

SENIOR REGIONAL ORCHESTRA AUDITIONS for those who have previously registered will take place on Monday, September 30 at JEB Stuart High School, Falls Church.

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!  All students should be actively, and regularly practicing at home to prepare for the October 29 fall concert.  We can't wait to be WOWED! 

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES  abound for orchestra parents!  The OHS Orchestras Volunteer Team is a parent-led volunteer organization committed to supporting the OHS orchestra director, our program, and our kids.  Fundraising to support spring trip costs and overall programming needs is a vital part of our mission, but not the only one!  We still need a carwash coordinator, uniform assistant, spring trip assistant and GL Scrip coordinator, to name a few.  Please contact Patty or Anne below if you have questions or can fill one of these vital slots.  Thanks also to the many parents who have already volunteered to help!
