OHS Orchestras Weekly News and Updates (Week of October 27, 2014)

posted Oct 28, 2014, 3:15 AM by Oakton Orchestras
, October 29th at 7 p.m. in the OHS Auditorium.  Invite family, friends and teachers to attend our kickoff concert for a fabulously fun and festive fall evening for all!  Prepare to be WOWED as our kids showcase all of their hard work from the first quarter of the school year.  A few reminders for students:
  • Check-in time is 6 p.m. sharp.  Mr. Oppenheimer will be taking photographic attendance at 6 sharp - if you are not in the group photo then, you will be marked tardy and will suffer the consequences!
  • Room Parents - if it works for your schedule, please come early to the concert and ask Mr. Oppenheimer what you can do to help.
  • Concert attire is orchestra polo shirt (tucked in), khaki pants, black dress shoes and socks, and (somewhat optional but HIGHLY encouraged) Halloween accessory.  Mr. Oppenheimer has discussed this thoroughly in class - no excuses.
  • Post concert reception to immediately follow the concert in the lobby.  Stay to meet and greet the student musicians and their awesome families. Thank you in advance to all parent volunteers who are providing goodies and helping hands.
SPRING TRIP INFORMATION (revised):  The total cost of our most fun (and educational) spring trip to Orlando has been adjusted to $825 to accommodate incidental costs.  Spring trip commitment letters were distributed in class last week.  The first deposit of $300, together with the signed trip commitment letter, is due to Mr. Oppenheimer by this Friday, October 31st.  Checks are payable to "Oakton High School".  LIMITED SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE based on need.  Scholarship application forms are available on the orchestra bulletin board.  Please contact Mr. Oppenheimer with questions.  We are aiming for 100% attendance this year - the orchestra spring trip is frequently noted as our students' most memorable high school experience in their four years at OHS.

ANNUAL CHEESECAKE FUNDRAISER IS UNDERWAY!  Information packets/order forms were distributed in class last week.  YUMMY SWEETZ CHEESECAKES all profits will be applied to reduce the overall cost of the Disney trip to all students (note that profits will not be allocated to individual student accounts as in years past due to new FCPS fundraising regulations).  Sell to family, friends, neighbors, teachers and anyone else willing to sacrifice a few calories for a good cause!

Looking forward to seeing you at the concert on Wednesday!
