OHS Orchestras Updates and Reminders (Week of November 5th)

Happy Second Quarter to OHS Orchestra Families!  Here are this week's updates and reminders:

CONCERT VIDEOS NEEDED for our website.  If you recorded our historically phenomenal concert last week, please contact Webmaster Bill for more information on how to share your video with us.  We would love to post the recording on our website so that we can re-live that most enjoyable musical evening.

CHEESECAKE ORDERS/PAYMENTS DUE THIS FRIDAY, November 8!  Don't forget to turn in your cheesecake orders no later than Friday, November 8.  All profits are credited to individual student accounts in order to defray spring trip and other program costs.  Indulge your charitable nature and your appetite at the same time by ordering yummy cheesecakes!  Orders will arrive the Monday before Thanksgiving, November 25 - order plenty for holiday feasting!  See our website or contact Cheesecake Coordinator Tammy Ham for more information.

SENIOR REGIONAL ORCHESTRA CONCERT, November 9.  Please come support the five OHS orchestra students who were selected via ultra competitive audition process to participate in the 2013 Senior Regional Orchestra event.  The honors orchestra is performing Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique on Saturday, 2 p.m., at Hayfield Secondary School (7630 Telegraph Road, Alexandria, Va).  This is a fabulous piece - a taste of which the Chamber orchestra delivered at our school concert last week - and admission is FREE!  Come cheer on your friends!

TUXEDOS HAVE ARRIVED!  But we need a parent volunteer to assist Mr. Oppenheimer in sorting  tuxedo shirts for about an hour one afternoon this week so that the uniforms can be delivered to the kids.  Please let Patty Lankenau or Mr. Oppenheimer know if you can help. Mr. Oppenheimer has spent countless extra-curricular hours this school year on these administrative chores and would really appreciate our help!

ROOM PARENTS NEEDED! We would like to have two or three parents per orchestra to be the primary points of contact for concert support (checking in the kids before each concert) and coordinating celebratory festivities (providing goodies to the classes after they reward us with extraordinary concert performances)!  Remember how much you miss your room-parent days from elementary school?  This is your chance to re-live those moments, free from messy crafts and sticky fingers.  Sometimes they won't  admit it, but the kids still want you to be involved and are unfailingly appreciative when you are.  Our fabulous musicians and Mr. Oppenheimer deserve your valuable support, so please contact Patty Lankenau if you would like to be a room parent (and indicate for which orchestra you are volunteering).

BARNES & NOBLE FUNDRAISER is coming up Black Friday, November 29th (Fair Lakes Promenade store).  Save your holiday book shopping for this event.  The store will donate a percentage of all sales to our program.  Stay tuned for more details coming soon.

Have a super rest of the week!

Patty Lankenau and Anne Suh,
Vounteer Team Co-Chairs
