Oakton Orchestras Weekly News and Updates (Dec 11, 2014)

HOLIDAY GREETINGS TO ALL OF OUR WONDERFUL ORCHESTRA FAMILIES!   With only one full week of school to go before the holiday break,our calendars are full of tantalizing musical treats. Please make sure that you don't miss any of the following -

ORATORIO MASTERWORKS CONCERT (Chamber Orchestra and Oakton Singers Combined Performance).  Don't miss this collaborative performance of the extraordinarily beautiful Christmas Oratorio by French composer Camille Saint-Saens.  It is a beautiful work in the style of Bach, featuring vocal and instrumental solos and sublime choral and orchestra scoring.  And the concert is FREE!  Note the following important details -

Dress Rehearsal - Friday, December 12th, 3 to 6:30 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 5114 Twinbrook Road, Fairfax, VA  22032.  All Chamber students are expected to attend.  Please arrange for your own transportation to and from the church - carpool with a friend!

Concert - Saturday, December 13th, 7:30 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church. Call time is 6:30 p.m. for musicians.

NATIONAL AIRPORT RUN-OUT CONCERT FOR CHAMBER ORCHESTRA!   National Airport (otherwise known as "DCA" or "Reagan Airport") has invited the Chamber Orchestra to perform a run-out concert for holiday travelers on Monday afternoon, December 15.  Students will depart school at 1:45 p.m. Monday afternoon and will travel to and from the airport via Metro (Vienna station - across from OHS).  STUDENTS SHOULD BRING EITHER A PREPAID METRO CARD TO SCHOOL ON MONDAY, OR MONEY TO PURCHASE A METRO CARD.  Volunteer parent drivers will transport most of the larger instruments by car.  Dress is OHS orchestra polo shirt and dress pants/shoes. Parent chaperones and drivers are needed!  Please contact Mr. Oppenheimer if you can help!

ALL ORCHESTRAS WINTER CONCERT:  Thursday, December 18th at 7 p.m., OHS Auditorium.  This promises to be a fun and festive evening featuring all three of our fabulous orchestras, plus special guests the Luther Jackson Middle School Chamber Orchestra.  A sign-up for donations of items needed for the post-concert reception will be circulated soon.  Invite family and friends to enjoy this special kick-off of the holidays.
