NYC Trip Details

Our most fun and awesome trip to New York is just around the corner.  Here are a few important details and reminders:

TRIP FORMS ARE DUE!  If you haven't turned them in already, please turn in all your trip forms TOMORROW (especially in light of Tuesday's threatening weather :/)  All forms are posted on the Oakton Orchestras Website under the "Forms & Documents" tab.  Chaperones must also turn in an ever-so-popular Emergency Care Form for themselves - you can bring this with you on Thursday.

MEDICINE DROP-OFF for all prescription and over-the-counter medicines is TOMORROW in the Orchestra room.  Mr. Oppenheimer will be there until 5 p.m. tomorrow, and Mrs. Suh will be there from 5 to 7 p.m. to collect all medicines and forms. Please contact Mr. Oppenheimer with any questions.

BUS AND CHAPERONE ASSIGNMENTS are now posted on the Oakton Orchestras Webiste under the Forms & Documents tab.  A few things worth mentioning -
  • The "Groups" are based on room sign-ups.  Each chaperone has been assigned three Groups, and all chaperones' Groups will ride on the same bus for the duration of our excursion.  This was done to help the chaperones keep track of of their charges and facilitate head counts.  These assignments were carefully considered based on the best interests of the overall group and no changes will be made.
  • You MUST ride the bus to which you were assigned for the duration of the trip, for the reason mentioned above.  We care about you.
  • Once on the bus, there will be no assigned seats (Yeah!) - you may sit where you like, but once you select your seat, you are asked to remain there for the duration of the trip to make it easier for your chaperones to account for you. See above - we care for you.
  • Once on foot in NYC, you are not "stuck" hanging out with your group.  We will generally travel as a large group everywhere we go, so you will be able to mix and mingle with all your friends in different Groups or buses.
  • Feel free to bring a movie to watch on the bus.  Rated "G" or "PG" only.
PARENTS ARE ASKED TO CONTACT THEIR CHILD'S CHAPERONE via email or phone (listed on the Bus Assignment sheets):
  • To share parent phone numbers (even if you signed the sheet at the trip meeting, please email your child's chaperone directly with this info)
  • To communicate any special concerns or needs
  • To ask questions, or
  • To simply say "Hi" and "Thank you".
The parent chaperones are thoroughly committed to ensuring you child's safety and support on our trip and welcome your questions and introductions.

PLEASE CHECK THE WEATHER for NYC for March 27 - 29.  As of today, forecasts are for cool and rainy weather on Friday and Saturday.  Make sure your child brings warm and weather-proof attire (including umbrella) to remain comfortable while touring the Big Apple.

FOR THURSDAY/DEPARTURE DAY we suggest that your child wear the "nice" attire that they will need for dinner and the NY Philharmonic Concert, or pack it in their "on the bus" bag (NOT their "under the bus" bag).  We will NOT be checking into the hotel until after the day's events, the kids will NOT have access to their "under the bus" luggage, and the kids will have to change on the bus NOT in the hotel.  It would be best to minimize changing clothes on the bus if possible.

QUESTIONS?  Please contact Mr. Oppenheimer or Patty Lankenau. We're looking forward to a terrific adventure together!
