Now that Fall's in full swing, there's a lot of news to share!
OHS Musicians Meet with ReSOUNDING Results!     Please congratulate the following OHS orchestra musicians who garnered a seat in the Northern Virginia Regional Orchestra through competitive auditions last Monday evening (earning an unprecedented number of seats for OHS):

Violin:  Stacy Ham, Irene Lee, Alice Xiang, Rachel Kim and Hannah Kang

Viola:   Mikey Lankenau – placed 1st in the Region. WOOOT!!!

Cello:  Mike Dettmar, Gary Yeh and Emily Wang

These outstanding musicians will represent Oakton at the Regional event in November at South Lakes HS and qualify to audition for All State Orchestra in February.  CONGRATULATIONS!
Car Wash a Super Sudsy Success!  Saturday's inaugural 2011-12 fundraiser netted over $650 for our program.  More than 40 students and  supportive parents turned out to beautify the roads by combatting vehicular grease and grime.  Thanks to all the enthusiastic students and parents who participated and donated supplies.  A special shout-out to DEB MACLEAN who did an awesome job organizing and running the event. Take a look at pictures on our website  .  If you missed the fun this time, don't worry - we're planning another one in the spring!
Senior District Orchestra Registration form and $5.00 fee due TOMORROW October 11. Link to form is on Blackboard.
Spring Trip Intent Form and First Deposit  Due this Friday, October 14.  Please send in your intent form and $175 payment this week.  Don't miss the fun - Mickey is looking forward to seeing on you!  If you need another copy of the form, it's here:  Orlando Trip Deposit Form
October Scrip Orders Due Friday October 14.   Information about this EASY way to raise funds for your spring trip is here - .  Please contact coordinator Cris Cerva at with any questions.
Barnes & Noble Book Fair Assistance Needed!  This is my personal FAVORITE fundraiser of the year.  On Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving), orchestra students spread holiday cheer and community goodwill (and raise money) by performing holiday music, face painting and wrapping gifts at the B&N Fair Lakes store.  It's a fun, festive and profitable event for our program. In order to have another successful year, we need your help!  For more information, see:
As usual, feel free to contact me or Mrs. Myers with questions.  Note that it's best to reach me at my home email below as I check the Gmail account less frequently.
