News & Updates - April 5th

posted Apr 5, 2011, 5:05 PM by Oakton Orchestras
In case you haven't heard, our spring trip to New York last weekend was a resounding success!  Our orchestras competed in the Festivals of Music-New York event and left with three impressive awards:

    * Chamber Orchestra - 1st Place with a rating of "Superior"
    * Symphonic/Concert - 2nd Place with a rating of "Excellent"
    * "Best Overall Orchestra" to our collective group

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL for your wonderful accomplishments!  In addition to the performances, we enjoyed seeing "Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway, a wonderful concert by the New York Philharmonic at the Lincoln Center (including a Natalie Portman sighting in the lobby), shopping in Chinatown, visiting Times Square and Rockefeller Center, a tour of NBC Studios and shopping on Fifth Avenue. But best of all was the fun times we had hanging out with old friends and making new ones.  I can't wait until our next adventure together next spring!
THANKS TO ALL OUR AWESOME CHAPERONES who contriburted their valuable time to accompany us and kept a close eye on our kids to make sure they were safe and cared for - Wendy Smith, Kathy Johnson, Margaret Bassett, Marie Colturi, Connie Lehman, Henry Griffis, Susan Geshan (and myself).  Extra special thanks to MRS. MYERS and WENDY SMITH for planning every detail and ensuring that the trip was trouble-free (except for the weather, which they had no control over).
A SPECIAL REQUEST OF THE KIDS:  PLEASE SEND ME ELECTRONIC OR DOWNLOADED COPIES OF PHOTOGRAPHS YOU TOOK.  I'd like to post them on our website so that we can share our memories with everyone.
FINALLY, CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL PARENTS for giving us such well-behaved, respectful and mature children!  Everywhere we went, people complimented us on the exemplary conduct of our kids.  You should be very proud of them (we certainly are). Thanks for sharing them with us.
