HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OUR OHS ORCHESTRA FAMILIES!  I hope you all enjoyed some happy and restful times with family and friends over winter break.  2011 is already off and running with many activities and adventures for our orchestra families, including:
 









DISTRICT ORCHESTRA FESTIVAL, January 7 & 8 (this weekend!):  OHS is hosting this annual honors orchestra event in just a few days.  Parents Anne Suh and Cris Cerva are coordinating a hospitality room for visiting orchestra directors and a concession stand for student musicians.  Critical needs for volunteers and donations are as follows: 

Needed for visiting directors/conductors:
Bagels & muffins. Respond to Anne Suh at Anne.Suh@gmail.com if you can provide.

Needed for concessions stand:
Baked goods- cookies, brownies, cupcakes.  Pack/wrap for individual sale.  Can be brought to the orchestra room starting Thursday. 
We could also use student and parent help on Saturday starting at 9:30 through the pizza sale at lunch. Also looking for a few more student ushers for the concert-2:30-4:30.

LASER TAG SOCIAL!!! Saturday, January 22nd, 5:00 p.m.  The OHS Orchestra student officers have planned an exciting evening of laser tag adventures at Shadowlands in Chantilly.  A flier and waiver form were distributed in class earlier this week (also posted on Blackboard).  This event is open to ALL orchestra students.  However, there are a limited number of open spots.  Return your payment ($12 to OHS Orchestra Booster Club) and signed waiver ASAP to Mrs. Myers so you will be included in the fun!
 
COOKIE DOUGH FUNDRAISER:  Remember those wonderful cookie treats after our winter concert last month??  Now is your chance to stock your fridge with yummy cookie dough to get you through the winter doldrums. Fundraiser kicks off January 5th.   Information about the DELICIOUS products and order procedure will be distributed in class.  This is our final big fundraiser to defray the cost of our spring trip to New York, so don't miss this chance to participate!  Orders are due back with payment on January 24, and cookie dough will be delivered to school for pick-up on February 14 - just in time to bake sweet treats for Valentine's Day.
 
BARNES & NOBLE SUCCESS!  The final tally of sales results are in, and we raised about $1,200.00 due to the Orchestras' very successful Black Friday book fair event.   Thanks again to all students and parent volunteers for their efforts.  These funds will be applied to reduce the cost of the spring trip for all students! 
 
SCRIP ORDER due January 15!  See this http://www.ohsorchestras.org/fundraising/glscrip if you need a reminder about how to place your order.  Take advantage of post-holiday sales and raise funds for your account at the same time! 
 
SPRING TRIP:  We will not be collecting a monthly trip deposit this month in order to give you some time to recover from the post-traumatic financial stress of the holidays.  A final reconciliation of trip costs and deposits will be made at the end of January, and any balance due will be billed to your child in early February.  Please contact our treasurer, Diane Farmer, at dianea.farmer@verizon.net with any questions regarding your account balance.
