Orchestra News
Parents be on the lookout for our first fundraiser.
Your student, in the last few days should have received 5 postcards. In an effort to reach our fundraising goal this year, we are asking that each student mail a minimum of 5 postcards to friends, family and/or local businesses. (A $.34 stamp is required to mail each postcard.)  This fundraiser allows the Orchestra to benefit 100% of the funds  and the Donor to receive a 100% tax deductible donation.

An example of how well this can work: If each student’s 5 postcards yields $5 (one coffee at Starbucks) a piece, 150 student will raise $3,750.

Cheesecake Fundraiser

Our cheesecake fundraiser will be kicking off next week.  Orders will be due October 28th.  Cheesecakes will be delivered the Monday before Thanksgiving.

What Can You Do?
Make Your Voice Heard

Attached you will find
1 - List of Board of Supervisors and call to action (Dates - Feb. 13-15, Feb. 16 and March 1)

We need to pack the Government Center,February 16th, to show the Supervisors just how serious we are about needing and getting full funding.   You need to get this out because if we do not get full funding from the Board of Supervisors - we could still lose the 4th grade string program.  As you have heard - this would impact both band and string teachers since we share certification.

In the advocacy world - there is also the belief that once they start cutting - other things follow.

We need to protect our program and we need your help!

FACE
has joined together with Friends of FCPS which combines all groups interested in obtaining full funding!

Tri-M sponsors -please note - we are going to events in the
county where we can get parents to sign letters to go directly to the Board of Supervisors.  Please email Jenna at musicedmommy@gmail.com if you have students that can help.

This coming weekend we are asking parents to send their supervisor a note, email, fax or phone message as part of a Send a Little Love Campaign.  We want to flood their offices with messages supporting full funding for the school system. Please mention 4th grade strings and the importance of maintaining the Arts in FCPS.
If you have questions - please contact one of us!

Oakton Chorus & Orchestra Master Works Concert -- December 5th 3PM

posted Dec 1, 2015, 12:04 PM by Oakton Orchestras

Oakton Chorus & Orchestra Master Works Concert

Saturday, December 5th at 3:00 PM

Vienna Baptist Church

541 Marshall Road, SW

Vienna, VA 22180

The Oakton Choral Department, under the direction of Tiffany Powell, and Oakton Chamber Orchestra, directed by Max Oppenheimer, will be collaborating to present an enjoyable evening of music performing two outstanding works by famous composers - Giovanni Battista Pergolesi and Franz Schubert. The combined Oakton Women’s Choirs will partner with the Oakton Chamber Orchestra to perform the Pergolesi Stabat Mater, while the Oakton Mixed Choirs will join forces with the orchestra for the Schubert Mass No. 2 in G Major. Many chorus members will also be featured as soloists within the works.

This Master Works Concert will be presented on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Vienna Baptist Church - The concert will begin at 3:00 PM and will be followed by a reception to honor our student performers. Admission is free. However, donations will be collected at a suggested rate of $10 per adult, $5 per senior citizen and student or a maximum of $20 per family.  This is a normal ticket price for an event such as this.  If you are not able to make a donation at this time, please do not allow this to keep you away from the performance.  Everyone will be admitted.  The donations will help cover costs associated with this performance and to benefit the church for the use of their facility. We hope that you can join us for this special concert event.
